Grace Farms Foundation continues its alignment with global leaders to combat format forced and child labor

Grace Farms is pleased to announce that it has been accepted as a participant of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest sustainability platform.  Grace Farms’ Design for Freedom joins over 25,000 participants from 167 countries, all of whom have made a commitment to the Global Compacts four pillars of labor, human rights, environment and anti-corruption.  Ten principles underpin its framework, each supporting the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“As we embark upon accelerating and actualizing our Design for Freedom international strategy, aligning with UNGC, the world’s preeminent sustainability initiative, is a valuable next step for us.” said Sharon Prince, CEO and Founder, Grace Farms Foundation.

Grace Farms is taking actions to advance the UN SDGs, especially SDG Target 8.7, which calls for “immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labor, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labor…” Through its Design for Freedom movement, Grace Farms is working with the global construction sector to directly address forced labor and child labor in the building materials supply chain.

International Lead at Design for Freedom, Elaine Mitchel-Hill, said, “I know from experience that the Global Compact offers a robust and powerful framework for organizations committed to responsible corporate behavior.  Aligning with UNGC is a natural next step for us.  Actively engaging with key Global Compact in-country networks will help us to bring Design for Freedom to scale internationally, to mobilize the construction sector and to engage them in practical terms to take action to eliminate embedded slavery in global supply chains.  We especially look forward to engaging with the USA and UK networks moving forward.”

The alignment with the UN Global Compact is the latest development in Grace Farms’ work to expand Design for Freedom internationally and marks a significant step in Grace Farms’ mission to create meaningful change through responsible and sustainable practices that respect human dignity across global supply chains.
